A bright new Snagit version 2020 with some very shiny and interesting features was just released. I wanted to take this opportunity to dive a little bit deeper and look at those new features here.
If you are ready to upgrade to Snagit 2020, please go here. You can purchase Snagit 2020 full version here.
Also just launched, be sure to check out SuperStamps v7, with 7,100 stamps for Snagit, now searchable in Snagit and perfect for any area of reports, presentations, video, and your visual communication.

Create Images from Template
The first time you crack open Snagit 2020, you’ll find a brand new menu item, called “Create”, which opens up two new options and a new world of possibilities.

The first new option is “Image from Templates”, is a big one. Snagit now includes premade templates that support drag-and-drop inclusion of your images and screenshots. There are a few templates already included, and also six free templates online at the time of this writing.
In this screenshot, I have also downloaded a few of the paid-for templates, that you can access with a subscription to a new service from TechSmith.

A new functionality that came with these templates is the ability to drag-and-drop images straight into the templates image areas. You can either drag-and-drop from outside the editor or drag up your screenshots from the recent captures tray at the bottom of the editor. Do not try to drag your image after dropping it in, instead, double-click to resize it, otherwise, you will move the image placement, instead of resizing the image.

This is a great new feature, but unfortunately, you cannot create and save your own templates. I am hoping we will see an option to save your own templates in the future, as this will really open up possibilities.
If you still would like to create your own templates, here’s a workaround. Pick the template that most resembles what you would like, edit it and save it as a .snag file. This way you can open and re-use your .snag file in the future.
Create Video from Images
The section new feature under the Create menu is the new feature to create a video from images directly in Snagit.
When you first try this out, I suggest that you collect the images you would like to include in your video, in order of appearance in the Recent Capture Tray. And resize them to the size you want them to appear. The recorder works in a linear way, so you start the recording, then manually switch between the images in the order you want them to appear in the video. This is contrary to most video editors today, where you can drag and sort assets in a non-linear fashion.

This is a great feature when you quickly need to create videos based on your images. You also have the option to annotate while recording as well as to capture your cursor to point during recording.
Enterprise Output: Slack and Box
Two new output features have been added. Now you can quickly share your edited screenshots to both Box and to Slack.

Arrow-tail Added to Callouts
Another new and highly requested feature has been added in this latest version. Now you can add Callout arrows with different tails.
You find this feature under Callouts, not under arrows. Choose Shape in tool properties to access the different Callouts shapes and among them the new arrowed tail.

I like it, but I hope it will be updated so that the look of the arrow, colors, etc., follows the style of the callout used.
Additional Changes
- Changing properties with multiple text objects selected works as expected
- Increased maximum font size
- Smoother rendering when using the Crop tool
- Performance improvements
- Other bug fixes and localization updates

I often have a need to snag a scrollable screen in its entirety.
Hello Walter, for scrolling you have two options, the scrolling window, and the panoramic capture. You can find them in the Region selector. I think the scrolling capture works very good now and it has improved a lot since version 2013.
