This website is mostly about Snagit. I don’t talk much (here) about other great software titles. In many ways, especially video recording, the big brother of Snagit is really Camtasia Studio. Well this post is a tribute to that big brother.
If Snagit is the ultimate tool to take any kind of screen shots, copy text, images and what-not from your screen, then Camtasia is the ultimate tool to record video from your screen. This is excellent when you want to create tutorials or any kind of instructional videos related to computer or internet use. Perfect to do software presentations, demos and so on.
Our all time favorite Screen Recording / Screencasting software Camtasia Studio is growing up. Camtasia was first released at Comdex 1999. Camtasia has come a long way in these last 10 years and are now available both on Mac and PC platform.
Techsmith compiled a cool timeline below that shows Camtasia milestones, advertising and logos, reviews, feature releases and technology milestones. Check it out:

Peter – Your Snagit Guide
I don’t understand, Snagit has a screen capture tool already so why buy both?
I have only used the screen capture a couple of times and it seemed to work good at recording a movie that I was watching online but the only thing that was annoying for me is that you couldn’t open any other windows or do anything else while recording because what you’re looking at is what it records in the same section of the screen that you had it recording. It would be nice if there was a way to make that box stick to the page you had it on so you could do other stuff while recording videos and not have to worry about the page moving a little bit. Saying this, I am assuming the Camtasia screen recorder maybe has more options, too bad since it’s from the same company they wouldn’t just merge the 2 together because the reason I got snagit was equally for capturing images and stuff not able to copy and paste and for recording online movies.
I’m glad I found your site. I have only read this and your eyedropper posts so far but it’s nice to have someone posting tips and tricks for snagit because unlike most software for some reason I can’t find too many guides or youtube vids for snagit. I know you can do so much with snagit but unfortunately it seems like to me you have to figure it all out on your own. I had snagit for a few months and didn’t even notice the snagit printer which is so great for when a website only lets you print something once. SO thank you for taking the time to post all of this info. And I guess I have to check out Camtasia now too!
Nice blog! You have great information here. Truly, camtasia Studio is the best screen-capture program for the PC. Camtasia tutorials are also very helpful. It is worth every penny and is consider as a must-have tool in every Internet Marketers arsenal.
